Xydis’ Residence Renovation (in progress..)

The Xydis’ residence (1962) is located in Mets, Athens, on Ardittos Hill, next to the Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimarmaro). The residence is a typical example of modern architecture by Aris Konstantinidis (1962) and is characterized by a clean morphological and formalistic essence, simplicity in arrangement, and structural sincerity and discipline. The building integrates with the natural environment and the built surroundings, merging harmoniously with the ground. The clean lines of the facades result from the building's elevation and clearly indicate its structural elements, both those carried and those supporting. Materials such as stone on the walls and exposed concrete of the structure make the construction structure and balance of the building even more distinct.

The study involves the necessary renovation and maintenance work on the building using the most contemporary technical, construction, functional, and specific architectural specifications, without altering its architectural characteristics or affecting the structural integrity of the building. The study places special emphasis on simultaneously preserving, upgrading, and highlighting the already established architectural typological, morphological, and constructional elements of the building's facade. The interventions primarily involve maintaining or replacing the elements that comprise the facade so as not to alter the building's fundamental characteristics and to restore them to their original form (windows, railings, etc.). Thus, the study aims to recover and accentuate the building's original character through archival research and appropriate architectural handling and choices.
