Two-house complex in Dionysos
The project concerns a two-house complex in Dionysos. The building is divided into two independent residences and is arranged over three above-ground levels and one basement level. The living spaces, a kitchen, and a small WC are located on the ground floor of each residence. The first floor of each residence includes two bedrooms, while the second floor consists of an attic and an additional bedroom. Key design elements include the gentle adaptation of the building to the corner plot and the utilization of its unique features, such as orientation, slope, shape, neighboring buildings, and distinctive natural characteristics. The main objective is to create two distinct building volumes within a unified whole. The proposal is structured in a "Γ" shape, encompassing a southeast courtyard within the interior of the plot, combined with an ascending axis of entrance that passes between the two residences, articulating a central semi-outdoor space, courtyards, and entrances. The "Γ" shape, along with the volumetric and morphological characteristics, differentiates the two prisms. Each residence in the side part of the "Γ" shape. This differentiation is highlighted by the permeating axis of entry, gradually leading the occupants from the neighborhood into the more protected interior space of the residences. The structural framework of the building is made of exposed reinforced concrete. The two prisms are complemented by a network of concrete framed pergolas that runs along the perimeter of the buildings. The roof is accessible, and parts of it is formed as a stepped- terraced arrangement to accommodate the open-air release of the bedrooms.
