Residence in Chalkida

The project concerns a new two-story residence with a basement and a swimming pool in Chalkida. The building is arranged into levels and one underground level. The residence is designed in a "Γ" shape, so the building's volume is oriented towards the south and east. Through the design, continuous transparency is achieved from all interior spaces to the courtyards. The characteristic axis of movement, centrally located in the building, is enhanced by the ascending linear motion from the sidewalk to the interior of the residence and by the double-height entrance space. The ascending movement continues within the building and culminates on the upper roof through an outdoor staircase-terrace located on the intermediate flat roof. The proposal is complemented by a network of pergolas with a reinforced concrete frame running around the perimeter of the building. The resulting frameworks are filled with slats, contributing to shading the underlying spaces and the bioclimatic behavior of the building. The building's structure is made of reinforced concrete, which remains exposed, and unpainted. The external finishes are either plastered brickwork or exposed concrete with various treatments.
