Herakleion x 4

First Prize in the Panhellenic Architectural Competition

The competition concerns the redevelopment of the urban cross surrounded by 4 blocks of our choice in Heraklion, Crete. The center of the crossroad expands and operates as the central square of the proposal, utilizing the urban void at the center of the neighborhood. The design organizes areas and uses, regulating life in such space, with an open border system of two interlaced axes, mainly on land (modul), and secondly over the street level, with sheds, wire ropes and other materials. Such geometry collaborates with the tracing of the streets and the blocks and tries to insert into the net system inert areas, non-edified sites, abandoned buildings and uncovered spaces. And, as a system, it can respond to the special conditions characterizing this area in particular (uses, property borders), as the proposal has an exemplary character.
