Reconstruction of a Vacation Residence on the island of Spetses

The study concerns the reconstruction of a vacation residence in Spetses for a family of four. The house, with a total area of 100 square meters, is organized on two levels (ground floor, first floor) and a small loft.

The new construction is framed by the existing two-story stone perimeter wall, which has been preserved from the old building and defines the rectangular prism within which the proposal is contained. The intervention is complemented by a new roof and outdoor entrance configuration.

The central idea is the differentiation of the new intervention from the old stone structure. This is achieved through the two main peripheral axes of movement that enclose the functions of the house in the center and the fixed equipment. This detachment is evident in the elevation and section, where the private spaces, closed and protected, are organized in distinct solids.

Due to the small scale of the subject and the increased requirements for space and functions, the communal spaces are open and fluid, allowing light and air to flow through the entire subject area and facilitating the intertwining of daily mixed activities in a common and unified gathering space. These requirements also led to solutions for versatile and economical equipment systems that define the limits of the space.

Finally, the materials (wood, concrete) in combination with stone emphasize the timeless natural relationship of the building with the site and its scale.
